Wanted: A Standard batting order!
Even after those twin defeats of last week, I can tell you, without an iota of doubt, we are still the Willow Cup favorites. And I can give it in writing we'll smooth sail to the last four without any hurdle. But from then on, the real test begins. To be champions, we need to start thinking the champions way. And champion teams, as we know, put their heart and soul into even the smallest decision that they make.
My point is that we lack a standard batting order and we need to get it in place as soon as possible. For e.g, It should be something like, say (1)Rajkumar, (2)Baptist*, (3)Dinesh/Devgan, (4)Tilak, (5)Govardan, (6)Gopal/Raja, (7)Malindu, (8) Ajay, (9) Prasad/Shravan, (10) myself and finally (11)Ranka in that order. Remember, its only my personal opinion. And the important thing you can shuffle your lower order only but not the top order. Never ever experiment with top order shuffling. That is to say the top 6 or 7 needs to be constant all the time. Each one of us should know beforehand his position very clearly. We need to sort this out immediately. Without wasting any further time, voice your opinion and make suitable changes if needed to the one order that I have specified.

we should not send gopal in 6th position and all......if we r in attack we can send him at end...if we lose early wickets then gopal should cum front for rescue..
ReplyDeleteBut 'losing early wickets' means 3 or 4 wickets in the first 5-6 overs right.. naturally he's going to come at no.6 then too.. Am not saying yours is not a valid point. The thing is no one is replaceable at the top five and we know Dinesh finds it comfortable playing the sheet anchor role coming at the top more than being a slogger at the end. May be we can push Gopal further down if there are big hitters like Malindu and Ajay still to bat with some 4-5 overs left..

ReplyDeletei think too much of confusion and apprehension is taking center stage here....cool guys i agree not 2 months before the willow cup u experiment with the batting order...lets play another 2 or 3 matches get into the groove...i mean wining ways....gopal is a player who needs time hes like dravid he cant blast from the word go....so wat i feel is if we lose 4 wickets in say initial 6 overs and still we have gova n malindu n ajay to play the nxt 10 overs send gopal in.. he ll settle the nerves a bit and eventually we ll have the above mentioned three (save gopal) to come off good both while batting first or chasing....the other case... if the top 4 still stay there for 10 overs then bring in the hitters goa, malindu n ajay...this is my personal opinion again constructive suggestions are expected......
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that the time for experimentations is over.. :) Now is the time to test ourselves against the best! And its not right to add Gova to the late hitters list. He should be actually playing a good portion of the first ten overs. I'm saying it because he has matured enough to bat through an innings. Like Yuvraj & Dhoni, we have Tilak and Gova forming the backbone of our middle order. The others should try & play around them. With Tilak prone to getting out early sometimes we should give Gova as much exposure as we can at the top. In fact swapping Gova and Tilak at No.4 & 5 is not a bad idea either..
