Madras Marauders Who??!
A blend of youth and experience, Team Madras Marauders is represented by a bunch of proven young cricketers from Pondicherry, Chennai, Trichy, Colombo and Mumbai. The Marauders are led by their swashbuckling opening batsman cum ‘keeper Prashant Baptist and managed by the ever inspirational Ramakrishnan. The team's fundamental objective: To compete and win the Willow Cup, the annual intra college Cricket tournament of National Institute of Technology, Calicut.
One of the newest forces in the league, Madras Marauders finally took shape in early 2009. The unrivaled experience, leadership and talent in the Marauders camp made them the hot favorites to lift the Willow Cup 2009. The team’s forte is its core group of all-rounders which effectively means the Marauders have 9 batsmen and 7 bowlers in their XI. They were simply invincible as they piled up consecutive victories in their first 16 matches. The team plagued by injuries and the absence of its star performers, finally gave up the battle the 17th time when they played Nodraves (M.P) in this year’s Willow Cup QF. The Win-Loss record now stands at 16-1.
The team was built on a few promises. One such promise was to play fair, hard and entertaining cricket on the ground that represented the fervor and flavor of Machans for decades. The other was to build opportunities to scout and nurture young cricketing talent in NITC. The Marauders hope to fulfill those promises by lifting the 2010 edition of the Willow Cup at any cost.
